Per Se Group  is seeking a qualified Power Plant Operator who is capable of working independently to support operations of five 2.5MW diesel generators, located at two sites on Martha’ s Vineyard MA. Requirements include having a blend of mechanical, operational, and electrical capabilities.

The Power Plant Operator performs duties that Include: start-up, shutdown, managing operations, preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on five (5) 2.5MW General Motors diesel engines primarily used as peaking assets, SCR/oxidation catalyst, controls, generators, and ancillary equipment. Additional responsibilities include keeping a spare parts inventory, maintenance planning/scheduling, record keeping, and reporting. The operator will also be responsible for fuel deliveries and maintaining all applicable licenses, such as underground storage tank operator, and method nine for determining opacity.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, other duties may be assigned as necessary.
  • Strong commitment to safety
  • Performs facility inspections. Coordinates preventive maintenance, and corrective repairs of plant equipment
  • Coordinates work at the facility, with offsite  support team, and subcontractors as required
  • Monitors and adjusts plant system controls to maximize performance and prevent equipment failure
  • Responds to plant alarms to execute appropriate corrective action and implement plant shut-down and start-up procedures
  • Maintains plant compliance with state and federal permitting requirements, and completes all daily, monthly, or annual reporting per requirements
  • Manages and administers data, records, and log information regarding equipment histories, condition assessments, calibrations
  • Create and close work orders, as required.
  • Maintains an inventory of tools, parts, fluids and other supplies for plant operations
  • Orders/purchases materials and supplies as required
  • Assists other Company facilities as directed by management
  • Performs random security inspections and various security checks around the plant
  • 24hr On-call, and responds to plant startups to verify proper operation and perform applicable rounds

Requirements:
  • Applicable field experience with at least two (2) years of experience in power generation service, industrial mechanical-electrical troubleshooting and repairs, or marine service OR training in applicable field with 2 – 7 years of experience in operations and maintenance of industrial diesel generators, industrial mechanical-electrical troubleshooting, and repairs or marine service OR applicable military experience
  • Must possess ability to read and interpret operations and safety manuals, analyze and apply basic troubleshooting and repair techniques on plant equipment
  • Strong computer skills required (Word, Excel, D365 and MS Outlook).
  • Valid driver’ s license.
  • Ability to obtain Massachusetts Underground Storage Tank License within 6 months of employment
  • Ability to complete method 9 smoke school within 6 months of employment

  • Occasional balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching/working overhead and climbing.
  • Use of one or both hands for installing parts, and using wrenches, tools, and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to hear and speak to be heard by employees, customers, vendors, and business partners.
  • Occasional travel to and between customer work sites.
  • Occasional exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and risk of electrical shock.
