As a Healthy and Safety Specialist you will be responsible for all safety oversight on renewable construction projects. You will be involved in daily meetings, tool box talks, and site walk downs ensuring all is up to standards and procedures. Previous knowledge and understanding of safety codes and construction projects is required. The ideal candidate will have renewable project experience as well.

Responsibilities

Develop, implement and maintain core Industrial Safety and Hygiene policies, procedures, and systems based on US OSHA, Canadian MOL, and ISO 45001: 2018 Occupational Health and Safety Management System to increase effectiveness and efficiency

Organize and provide WTG working at heights and confined space rescue training.

Investigate work related accidents on operating and construction sites, determine root causes, provide corrective actions, and follow through on implementation.

Write policy, procedures, and forms to ensure regulatory compliance and intuitive use.

Administer health and safety software database and mine for trends, potential corrections, and improvements.

Design and update emergency action plans, supervise annual drills and follow through on improvement actions.

Provide face-to-face training for various safety classes including, but not limited to, OSHA 10-hour, LOTO, confined space rescue, electrical safety, and hydraulic safety.

Travel to operating and construction sites to provide instruction, perform annual internal audits, and support.


Requirements

Bachelor’ s degree in engineering, occupational safety, or related field, or 5 years minimum equivalent work experience required.

Minimum 3 years of demonstrated experience with safety responsibilities.

Professional certification in H&S related fields are considered beneficial (CSP, etc.)

Strong presentation skills, ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization verbally and in writing.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Must be capable of making well-informed decisions in both routine and emergency situations.

Advanced technical and working knowledge of industrial safety disciplines (general industry, construction, Behavior Based Safety (BBS), etc.) related to construction and operation of power generation projects; related U.S. and Canadian federal, state/provincial, and local laws and regulations.

Ability to work in harsh outdoor environments and climb 300 vertical feet of ladder to assist in a rescue of an injured worker.

Ability for a successful check climb is a condition of employment - training and qualification process provided.

Ability to instruct personnel in rescue training.

Must have basic knowledge of hand tool use and safety.

Must have basic knowledge of electrical testing equipment and testing protocol safety.

First Aid, CPR, AED skills and certification.

Proficient in the following application programs: Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio, PowerPoint, Teams) and Adobe Acrobat Standard.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’ s license.

Overnight travel 25-50%.

Must hold or be eligible to hold a U.S. Passport and travel to Canada.
